Hilarious Bad Reviews of the World's Best Museums
Museums hold some of the world's greatest treasures, from artifacts to works of art that capture the essence of the human experience. Still, even the best of the best are no match for entitled tourists who throw virtual fits on Tripadvisor to complain about things like having to make a line, descriptions being in native languages rather than English and not being allowed to break the rules.
If you ever wanted proof that some tourists are basically giant babies, read these absurdly terrible reviews of the best museums on the planet.
New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art Shouldn't Follow Its Own Policies
"I enjoyed the museum immensely but got off to a bad start. Security check revealed that I had brought food for lunch. Since it was still early, I was forced to discard my sandwich. I know this is the museum's policy, but it appears to be based on the desire to force visitors to purchase lunch from the museum, a petty and greedy policy." — 369StatenIslandSue
This person knowingly ignored museum policy and tried to sneak in their sandwich, then got so mad that their plan didn't work that they felt compelled to write a bad review. If you try to work the system, be prepared to have it blow up in your face.

Mexico's National Museum of Anthropology Is Just Too Good at Its Job
"A very large museum that could be interesting if they sorted through all the artifacts. There is just too much to see and so many exhibits looked the same. The building has very nice architecture, though. Also, for English speakers there aren’t many signs to explain exhibits." — eliza r
A museum that has too many things to see? Barf! Give me the bare bones of the history of one of the largest countries in the world. Also, how dare Mexico have signs in Spanish rather than English? Anglophones are the only people that matter!
Self-Centered Tourist VS. the Art Institute of Chicago
"The museum was on our visit list because Ferris Bueller visited here on his day off. On Thursday evening, it’s free to only in-state people. Bummer. On Friday morning, we arrived early at 9. They open at 10 only if you are an Illinois resident or member. And 11:00 for all others. Bummer again. Seemed like they cater to Illinois residents. Oh well. There were way too many other things to do." — California Girl
California Girl is giving us second-hand embarrassment. Not only did this person confess to only going to one of the world's most important museums because of a movie, but they also proudly confessed to their inability to read information on the museum's website. Oh, and they're so self-important that they left a two-star review for a museum they never visited.
Someone tell these people the world doesn't revolve around them.
Why Doesn't London's British Museum Censor Works of Art?
"The British Museum is so boring. It is [made up of] endless corridors of burning history and torture. Do not recommend for families with young kids as this is an absolute disgrace." — idk
Ugh, why is history full of violence? Someone should've told Renaissance artists to make their paintings PG so as to not offend overprotective parents who don't know how museums work.
Taipei's National Palace Museum Is Just Chinese History
"There's a lot of stuff that for the average holiday maker is really dull. Think Chinese scrolls and pottery. That's about it. Miss it unless you have a passion for Chinese history as there's not too much effort to make it more interesting." — Jennifer W
Who wants just historic artifacts? Museums should have a Ferris wheel, fireworks and roller coasters. In fact, all museums should be like Disney World.
Why Even Go to El Prado Museum in Madrid if You Can't Post About It on TikTok?
"The artwork is certainly magnificent and is the only reason I won't rate this experience only 1 star. But the prohibition of photography without a good reason is very upsetting. I have to say that not being able to photograph myself in front of a famous painting to have a lasting memory of my visit completely ruined my viewing experience and left me unable to enjoy the museum. — Miku&Mussu
Oh, the injustice! Someone please call a lawyer for this tourist who can't enjoy something unless they take a picture of themselves in front of it. What's even the point of traveling or seeing a work of art if you can't make your friends jealous with pictures?
Italy's Vatican Museums Are *Just* an Art Gallery
"This is just an art gallery and very disappointing too! Unable to stand and view art due to the sheer number of people." — Lucia
Lucia has a fair point about the Vatican Museums being way too crowded. But calling it just an art gallery is absurd.
England's National Gallery Has a Vendetta Against Umbrellas
"I respect the fact that large umbrellas should go into the cloakroom in order to avoid hitting the paintings with it. But you can't demand that I put it in there and charge me £2 to do so [...] in the past you didn't charge for large umbrellas." — Tom J
The National Gallery definitely deserves one star for making Tom pay the appalling amount of £2 to leave his large umbrella in the cloakroom so he doesn't ruin priceless art.
Athen's Acropolis Museum is Just Some Rocks, Ew
"Not worth the time or money. Expensive just to see the same rocks over and over again and watch some videos you can't hear over the other people. You have to go through metal detectors and get your bag x-ray and you're watched by staff the whole time. I understand safety and caution is necessary, but you'd think you were entering Area 51." — Voyager36064188370
Some would argue that the Acropolis Museum protects some of the most important pieces of ancient art, including vases and sculptures. It also has the remnants of the original Acropolis, most of which was destroyed. But where some people see treasure, others see just rocks.
How Dare Paris' the Louvre Operate Like Every Museum?
"Terrible customer service. No one to speak to. Beware, they don't give refunds. If you go in the afternoon you will be charged full price but won't have time to see much. Disorganized and unhelpful. Avoid." — Redbrickcafe
It is utterly appalling that a museum would close at the time it says it'll close! It's not like people are responsible for their own time and can decide when to arrive so they get a full experience.
