Sometimes you and your dog just need to get away from the stress that is everyday life and be seriously pampered, eat good food, wear special outfits, take sunset walks amid gorgeous scenery.

There are plenty of luxury hotels for humans in the world, but a kennels-getaway is not necessarily what your pampered pup might have in mind when it comes to doggy luxury. Fret not, help is at hand. More and more luxury hotels around the globe are figuring out that when you truly want to relax, it's nice to bring your pup along and for both of you enjoy the good life.

So, wherever you might want to go, from countryside to city breaks, there is a luxury hotel to cater to both your wishes and expectations. Let's just hope the pooch appreciates all the extra attention.

La Réserve Hotel & Spa, Paris, France

Just off the Champs-Élysées, La Resérve is quintessentially Parisian with 40 suites and rooms decorated with silk wall-lining, brocades and velvet, with a library cum meeting room lined with 2,000 bound first editions, private butler service, a two-Michelin-star restaurant, a spa and indoor pool, plus a private garden, all yours from $1,200 per night.

And if you bring your pooch? No, problem. Upon arrival, he'll receive a medallion with his name engraved, the butler will bring special dog bowls and pillows, even a set of steps if he can't reach the bed. There is a menu offering treats such as delicate chicken breast with steamed rice, fish of the day with baby carrots, all washed down with bottled Evian water for around $40 per dish.

For walks along the Champs, the butler will organize a cashmere doggy sweater by a dog couture fashion designer Mungo & Maud, starting at $200.

The Jefferson, Washington D.C.

Grand and elegant with marble fire places, historical busts and wood panelling, The Jefferson is more like an exclusive English gentlemen's club than a city hotel. A 1923 Beaux Arts design by Jules Henri de Sibour, the hotel combines history with modern amenities, and, of course, a Michelin-starred restaurant.

Your pup might not be allowed into that restaurant, but he'll get his own set of bowls, a bed, special dog treats and filtered water to keep him comfortable. There is also a walking map, suggesting routes around the hotel and highlighting worthwhile destinations such as doggy parks, and doggy-friendly bakeries.

But to really embrace the history of the city, the concierge will organize a walking tour entitled "Famous dogs and Animals in American History" for both of you. Your pup might also end up posing for the hotel's Instagram account, which regularly features cute guests.

St. Pancras, London, UK

The St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel is a railway station hotel. But a railway station hotel which needs a whole new category. Dating back 1873, it has the look of a gothic castle, the size of a museum, and filled with architectural features that take your breath away at every corner and are oh-so Instagram-able.

Upon check-in, you'll simply get a key to your room, whereas your pup gets the St Pancras Pooch Package, and a Woof gift box. He'll be provided with a luxury dog bed, bowls and snuggly blanket, and he can enjoy unpacking a fluffy toy, different kind of chews and a poop-bag dispenser. There is even a voucher for a one-to-one session with a dog trainer, just in case there is room for improvement.

And while the bars and The Gilbert Scott restaurant are off limits for your pup, the Hansom Lounge offers perfect Afternoon Tea for both of you.

The Peninsula New York, NY

Neo-Classical elegance on Fifth Avenue. Sweeping staircases, huge flower arrangements, crystal chandeliers. Staff that bends over backward to please, a chauffeur-driven BMW available for sight-seeing, or, alternatively a Mini Cooper for self-drive, a gigantic sun terrace, superb restaurants, a spa, and gym with work out classes. And as for that rooftop cocktail bar…

But what about the pup? Well, he'll get a Peninsula-branded bed and bowls. Upon arrival he's welcomed with treats and even gets a personalised water bottle. If he's staying with you in a suite, he'll have a Peninsula collar and leash, towel and toy waiting for him. And to make sure he's cool enough for NYC, he'll also get a bandana.

The Pines Lodge, Beaver Creek, CO

The Pines Lodge is a sprawling resort nestled within snow-capped mountains, surrounded by 1,800plus acres of ski-able terrain. Add a large selection of food outlets, ranging from sushi to grills, from open modern kitchens to bar snacks, a cocktail bar by an adults-only pool, and Italian eaterie and various bars, and you've got the recipe for a forever-stay.

Just need to accommodate the pooch. The 4Paws Pet Program welcomes your pet with dog treats, a toy, a Pet-in-room door sign, poop-bags, pillow bed, bowls and floor mat, and a list of extra services such as grooming and local vets and pet markets. The dog food you can select from the in-resort market.

Maison Talbooth, Essex, UK

Maison Talbooth is an English country house set in the middle of the rambling countryside by the river that inspired Constable's master painting "The Hay Wain." Twenty individual cosy rooms with corners to snuggle up in, and a terrace to eat al fresco and a pool for summery days. Add three rooms with a private terrace reserved for pet owners. Here the dogs are even allowed to relax with their owners in the lounge and share dinner on the restaurant terrace.

But emphasis is on the walks, with hours of fun to be had in the surrounding countryside. The pooch package even offers, apart from bowls, food and treats, walkies maps and poop bags, a special towel for the wet pooch after a swim in the river. And if you want to dine dog-free, dog sitters are at hand.

Milestone Hotel Kensington, London, UK

If you are staying opposite the Kensington Palace, you expect something a little special, and the Milestone Hotel offers it all. Go shopping in the in-house Bentley to nearby Harrods, laze around in the individually styled rooms and suites in the Grade II-listed, lounge around in the monochrome conservatory or have a drink in the oh-so-English Stable Bar, or, simply be jealous of the good time your pup is having.

Esplanade, Zagreb, Croatia

Once a stop on the Orient Express route between Paris and Istanbul, the Esplanade is full of true old-world glamour and "the" place to stay in Zagreb. The central ball room is all you need to see.
