Celebrity Style
Kylie Jenner boldly embraces green in Paris. This summer, you might have already seen photos of Kourtney Kardashian kicking it in Capri with her model boyfriend, Vanessa Hudgens staying staying in the lap of luxury in Turks & Caicos, Halle Berry wrapping her arms around the fam in Bora Bora, or Kate Hudson hosting a babymoon in Greece with her girls.
You may have also noticed how stylish these celebrities have looked during their globe-trotting getaways — and wondered how you could look equally fabulous.
To help, we've rounded up some of the most popular celeb-fashion trends of the summer travel season. From casual overalls to classy lace, these looks will have you looking A-list-ready.
Off-the-Shoulder Ruffles
Model Alessandra Ambrosio makes ruffles look sexy in Ibiza.Off-the-shoulder ruffles are reminiscent of sultry screen sirens like Sophia Loren and dancing the flamenco. And since they ripple like water, they're particularly well-suited to summer.
In Cuba, Vanessa Hudgens paired a gold silk ruffle top with polka dots. Alessandra Ambrosio appropriately paired her red-hot ruffles look in Ibiza with the caption “Muy Caliente.” And in Montenegro, Chanel Iman proved that the style works with swimwear, too.
Just don’t forget the sunscreen — this could lead to a very strange tan.
Low-Cut Swimsuits
In a swimsuit with a partially unzipped zipper, Joan Smalls brings the heat on Grand Cayman. Not surprisingly, celebs are going bold with their bathing suit style. Kourtney Kardashian celebrated boyfriend Younes Bendjima’s 25th birthday with a summer boat trip in Lake Powell, Ariz., that had her showing off a solid-color swimsuit with sultry cut-outs. And while traveling with her model squad, Kendall Jenner showed off a bright yellow bikini with the hips pulled high.
But the most daring, and popular, look has been the swimsuit with a plunging neckline. In Grand Cayman, model and actress Joan Smalls showed off a black one-piece with a revealing front zipper. Actress and singer Jackie Cruz went even more risque in Berlin, posting a shot in a hotel fountain while wearing a yellow suit with a low-cut front and derriere-exposing back.
White Sneakers
Naomi Campbell shows off the effortlessly cool white sneakers look.Great with a tan, white sneakers can be worn anywhere — even, as proven by “Orange is the New Black actress Uzo Aduba, on safari in Tanzania.
Jessica Alba and husband Cash Warren wore their white sneaks on a recent trip to Beijing, Lucy Hale ventured through Cambodia in hers, and Naomi Campbell and Nigerian singer/songwriter WizKid posed on the tarmac in theirs, ready to board a private plane to Italy.
The only problem with these shoes is that they are impossible to keep clean — so maybe pack a couple pairs, just in case.
Overalls
As Kristin Cavallari makes clear on a trip to Mexico, overalls never go out of style.Maybe it’s because overalls remind us of simpler times that they keep coming back in fashion. These days, celebs are wearing them in lighter washes of denim, from white to worn-out blue, paired with a translucent blouse, a fitted tank or nothing at all.
If you want to go bold, mimic Cara Delevigne, who recently wore hers on the streets of London like a bibbed pair of jeans. For a more classic vibe, crib the style of Kristin Cavallari, who wore hers the old fashioned way with a tee in Tulum.
Stripes
A striped shirt dress looks tres chic on Pixie Lott in Italy.Mariner stripes in the summer are quintessential French girl fab. Taylor Swift has donned stripes at home and while traveling, in destinations from Rhode Island to England.
If horizontal stripes aren’t your thing, you can go vertical like singer-songwriter Pixie Lott did in a shirtdress in Verona, Italy. Or you can buy your own pair of striped, loose-fitting oversized pants, a la “Teen Vogue” icon Elaine Welteroth in Salvador, Brazil.
Monochromatic Style
Bella Hadid's all-yellow Parisian look matches the gold of the Eiffel Tower. In Paris this summer, three different celebs proved that head-to-toe whites and brights look amazing against a tan.
Kylie Jenner showed off a neon-green terry cloth top and tube skirt on a swanky hotel balcony. Model Bella Hadid went for an all-yellow look with the Eiffel Tower as backdrop. And at a Louis Vuitton fashion show, Rihanna kept things simple in monochromatic white.
Hawaiian (Aloha) Shirts
Hawaiian fashion just looks as good in the City of Light, as evidenced by model Ruby Rose on vacation.Who doesn’t want a little Elvis in their lives? Popularized by The King and brought back to life by stars like Justin Bieber, the eye-catching Hawaiian shirt — which hasn’t changed since it debuted in Honolulu in the 1930s — has become a summer-travel staple.
Model Ruby Rose proved the Hawaiian shirt works on both sexes during a trip to Paris. And singer-songwriter, designer and make-up artist Jeffree Star wore a Gucci-designed Aloha look in the Dominican Republic.
Bold 70’s-Style Separates
Kourtney Kardashian rocks bold prints in Italy.Matching bold prints, brocades and bright florals makes for an undeniable summer statement. Many celebs — including actress Victoria Justice in Bermuda and Kourtney Kardashian in Portofino, Italy — have added in a glimpse of exposed skin for a sexy touch.
Also popular: throwing in a matching jacket, a la Olivia Palermo.
Wide-Leg Pants
Karlie Kloss keeps things classic with wide-leg pants on a trip to China.Wide-leg pants are luxurious and practical: They keep clothes off freshly sunburned legs, and stop your thighs from rubbing together on a sweaty day.
Model Karlie Kloss was recently spotted with wide-leg pants on a flight to Shanghai, while Kourtney Kardashian modeled a dramatic pair in Rome. With their high waist, pleats and pockets, these pants channel classic Lauren Bacall, which is always a good thing.
Lace
Model Olivia Culpo is New York summer-cool in white lace. The peekaboo nature of lace allows you to cover up without being covered, adding an elegant touch to a sexy look.
In Montauk, N.Y., for an engagement party, Olivia Culpo wore an elegant, short white lace frock paired with matching earrings. In Palm Springs, Calif., Rachel Zoe took her white lace look down to the floor, showing off just a hint of leg.
Statement Hats
Chrissy Teigen shows off her hat and baby during a Bali getaway.Celebrities make their living from their looks, so it goes without saying that they need proper sun protection. Plus, when people are following you around with cameras, you can’t be caught dead with bedhead.
Throwing on a hat like the one Chrissy Teigen recently wore in Bali, or Emily Ratajkowski sported during a beachy getaway, makes for pulled-together style that also prevents a dreaded face burn.
Wicker/Straw/Rattan Bags
Nothing says "summer beach fun" like a straw bag, shown here on the arm of Emma Roberts in St. Tropez.Summer is all about getting back to basics, and there’s nothing more classic than a simple straw bag. In St. Tropez, Emma Roberts paired another on-trend look — lace — with a funky straw purse. And in Siem Reap, Cambodia, Lucy Hale grabbed a straw bag by the handles.
Billowy Dresses
British fashion model Adwoa Aboah looks ready for summer in a billowy dress in the Maldives.Billowy dresses make for a classic, breezy summer look. No wonder they’ve been worn by celebs like Bella Thorne, Kate Moss and Adwoa Aboah during their summer travels to South Carolina, Mykonos and the Maldives, respectively.
To really look like a celeb, go for a billowy dress with a delicate, feminine print.
Crop Tops
In Capri, Kim Kardashian's pal Carla DiBello exposes her stomach.Celebs are exposing their midriffs like it’s the 90’s and they’re hanging out with Drew Barrymore. See: Priyanka Chopra walking her dog through the streets of New York in a casual cotton crop top over tie-front khakis.
The look has been sported during summer vacays as well; recently, Kim Kardashian exposed her tummy in Capri, as did her friend Carla DiBello, who paired a midriff with a pencil skirt.
Retro Sunglasses
Round-frame sunglasses, like the ones worn by Sophie Turner in Palm Springs, evoke classic style. This summer, it’s all about throwback round-frame sunglasses — the kind popularized by legends like John Lennon and Ozzy Osbourne.
On a Palm Springs, Calif., getaway, “Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner looked cool in the heat in her classic shades. In Berlin, Camila Cabello opted for larger lenses for a bolder statement.
Cutoff Pants
Cutoff jeans like the ones worn in Ibiza by Shay Mitchell beat the heat, and are sexy to boot. The perfect cutoffs are a must-have for globe-trotting celebrities — Ciara even wore them while dancing during her Cape Town honeymoon.
Proving that trendy looks work best together, actress and model Shay Mitchell paired cuttofs with a crop top, statement hat and retro shades in Ibiza, while Ellie Goulding complemented her cutoffs with white sneakers and a cropped Hawaiian shirt (plus a cocktail!) during a mystery summer vacay.
Striking Tans
Leave it to J Lo to rock summer's sexiest tan.Nothing says summer like a tan. It makes your legs look longer, your belly seem leaner and the whites of your eyes that much brighter.
Little wonder, then, that celebrities have flaunted their tans around the world this summer. The most envy-inducing of the bunch? J Lo, who looked strikingly tan in a photo she shared from a summer birthday bash for beau Alex Rodriguez in the Bahamas.
