In Travel we Trust
Getting reflective while looking out over the majestic beauty of Wailua, Kauai.Like most travelers, I can’t provide you with a definitive list of my favorite destinations — picking a preferred child, I imagine, would be far easier — but I can easily share some of my most treasured memories.
On the untamed Big Island of Hawaii, I zipped overhead in a helicopter, watching orange lava bubble beneath the surface of an active volcano. In Brighton, England, I partied until 5 am at a local dance club, then watched the sun rise over the rocky beach with a cadre of friends and two of the club’s bouncers.
In Palm Springs, Calif., I saw Ben Affleck film a commercial in nothing but a skimpy robe. And in Dublin, Ireland, I had the best damn pint of Guinness known to man, at the factory where the beer is made, while looking out over the city on a misty day.
There is so much more I still want to do: travel by boat in the Galapagos Islands, making friends with the local crabs and blue-footed boobies that inspired Darwin all those years ago; explore the seaside towns of the Mediterranean, making frequent stops to sample the local cheese and wine; hitch a ride on a four-wheeler through the Australian outback, searching for bearded dragons and red kangaroos.
I’ve been fortunate enough to turn my passion for travel into a career, having spent several years as a travel writer and editor, but I’ve also enjoyed the journeys taken with family, with my partner, with my friends and (sometimes best of all) completely by myself.
If you’re here at Far & Wide, my guess is you share this passion too — an abiding desire to see as much of this world in your lifetime as you possibly can.
Our promise is simple: to do everything we can to help you in this quest, by sharing handy tips, insider insights, amazing personal narratives, inspiring photos and so much more.
Thank you for joining us as we explore the world together.
